Health, Safety & Licensing

At AR Plus, health, safety, and quality are central to how we operate. Every team member understands the importance of following best practices — not just for compliance, but to protect the wellbeing of our clients, our crew, and the wider environment.

Asbestos Removal

Licensed for Both Class A and Class B Asbestos Removal

We are licensed under WorkSafe NZ to carry out both Class A and Class B asbestos removal projects. This allows us to manage everything from common residential materials to high-risk commercial remediation work, without needing to bring in third parties.
Holding both licence types means we can undertake complex, multi-stage asbestos projects and deliver a comprehensive, end-to-end solution. Every project is assessed by our internal Health & Safety Manager, with licensed supervisors and trained technicians assigned accordingly. Where required, we coordinate third-party testing and air monitoring to ensure clearance documentation is issued by an independent assessor.

What Our Licences Allow

Class A

Asbestos Removal Licence
  • Friable asbestos (e.g. insulation, sprayed coatings, pipe lagging)
  • Asbestos-contaminated dust or debris
  • Mixed projects involving both friable and non-friable asbestos

Class B

Asbestos Removal Licence
  • Non-friable (bonded) asbestos (e.g. roofing, cladding, cement sheeting)
  • Dust associated with non-friable asbestos

Qualified Mould Remediation Technicians

Toxic black mould (Stachybotrys chartarum) can cause serious health issues, especially in households with children, elderly residents, or those with compromised immunity.

AR Plus has qualified mould remediation technicians trained to identify, isolate, and treat contaminated areas in line with recognised industry standards, including ANSI/IICRC S520. Alongside ACES training, our team now holds certifications with the Australasian Society of Building Biologists and IICRC, strengthening our expertise in mould assessment, indoor environmental quality, and remediation best practice.

Where full remediation is required, we also provide reinstatement services, such as relining and painting, to help return the site to a safe and habitable condition.

Asbestos inspection, licensing and qualified mould remediaction technicians

We work across sensitive, high-risk sites where accountability matters — including homes, schools, medical facilities, and public infrastructure. Our safety processes reflect that responsibility, and our clients know they can count on us to deliver properly managed, low-risk work environments at all times.

Independently Accredited and Audited

AR Plus holds nationally and internationally recognised accreditations across asbestos removal, mould remediation, and health and safety management.

These accreditations reflect the systems, planning, and ongoing training we commit to. Not because we have to, but because that’s how we work.

FAQ: Licensing and Health & Safety

Here are some common questions. If you require more information please contact us.

Class A allows for the removal of friable asbestos materials that are soft, crumbly, or easily damaged, such as insulation or sprayed coatings. Class B covers non-friable asbestos, which includes bonded materials like roofing and cladding. AR Plus holds both licences, meaning we can handle the full range of asbestos-related work safely and legally.

Yes. Our team is trained to operate safely in both public and private spaces, including live environments. We follow strict site protocols, communicate clearly, and take care to minimise disruption wherever we work.

Yes. Our team is certified to identify and remediate black mould in accordance with safe industry practices. We utilise professional-grade testing and containment methods to safeguard health, and we provide comprehensive reinstatement options for affected areas.

Amotai is Aotearoa’s supplier diversity intermediary. It verifies that AR Plus is majority Māori-owned and actively supports businesses working to engage Māori and Pasifika suppliers. This accreditation is essential for contractors and government clients with supplier diversity commitments who seek to partner with verified businesses.

Tōtika is a national health and safety prequalification framework. While AR Plus already exceeds these standards through our ISO certifications, Tōtika registration helps clients easily confirm that we meet formal health and safety (H&S) benchmarks across various sectors, especially in larger-scale or government projects.

Absolutely. Every project is backed by site-specific safety documentation and supported by our certified management systems. Clients receive clear information on what’s happening, how risks are managed, and when each stage is complete.

Yes. For all Class A removal jobs and many Class B projects, an independent third-party assessor is engaged to conduct air monitoring and clearance testing upon completion of the work. This includes air quality checks, surface swabs, and a formal clearance certificate to confirm the area is safe for re-entry. It’s an essential step in ensuring transparency, compliance, and your peace of mind.

The core process remains the same — an independent assessor conducts air monitoring and testing to confirm the area is safe — but the scope can vary depending on the site. In residential settings, clearance is typically focused on the work area and immediate surroundings. In commercial or public settings, the process may involve larger zones, multiple air monitors, and staged clearances to ensure operations run safely. AR Plus manages this process as part of our standard service, ensuring all regulatory requirements are met, regardless of the site.

Our Environmental Health & Safety Manager, Wayne Kohi, leads all health and safety systems, training, and compliance. His oversight ensures our work consistently meets legal obligations and internal standards.

We are Telarc registered to both ISO 45001:2018 and AS/NZS 4801:2001 standards. We also maintain a SiteWise Gold status with a 100% score and are pre-qualified in the SHE contractor compliance database for asbestos removal, fire, and soil remediation.

Yes. Copies of our licences and certifications can be provided upon request. We’re always happy to provide verification for peace of mind.
